Man, 28, charged with attempted murder after crash left police officer fighting for life

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was seriously injured in a car crash in Buckinghamshire.

Simranjit Kajla, 28, of Lydford Avenue in Slough, will appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court today.

It comes after Thames Valley Police officer Pc Christopher Miller was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run with a car while he was on duty in a village near Slough at around 10.20pm on May 22.

The officer, 38, has spent five years with the roads policing unit and has been in the police for 13 years, the force said.

Kailja stands accused of attempted murder, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and using a motor vehicle on a road without insurance.

Three other people were arrested in connection with the crash on the B416 Bells Hill in Stoke Poges, between Decies Way and Rogers Lane.

A 38-year-old from Slough who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving has been released on police bail until August 23.

A 43-year-old man from Slough, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice, has been released under investigation.

A 37-year-old woman from Slough, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice, remains in custody.

Deputy Chief Constable Ben Snuggs said previously: ‘Police officers face danger every day.

‘In this incident, Pc Christopher Miller was simply doing his job, serving the public and keeping our communities safe.

David Moore, a local Conservative councillor, said: ‘I am deeply shocked and saddened to learn that one of our brave police officers is fighting for his life following this horrific incident.

‘This has shaken Stoke Poges and our wider community across south Bucks. Residents and councillors alike are appalled by this incident.
