has appeared in courtover the death of a sailor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/11\/rescuer-says-its-a-miracle-didnt-die-north-sea-oil-tanker-crash-22704312\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/11\/rescuer-says-its-a-miracle-didnt-die-north-sea-oil-tanker-crash-22704312\/\">North Sea crash<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Vladimir Motin, a 59-year-old captain from St Petersburg, appeared at the Old Bailey via a videolink from Hull prison for his plea hearing today.<\/p>\n<p>He is accused of gross negligence manslaughter and was charged days after the incident on March 10.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing was adjourned until May 30 due to the absence of a Russian interpreter.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/10\/impact-will-oil-tanker-explosion-environment-22700631\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/10\/impact-will-oil-tanker-explosion-environment-22700631\/\">environmental disaster<\/a> was narrowly avoided after Solong rammed into the US-flagged MV Stena Immaculate anchored off the Humber Estuary last month. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"430\" more than 200,000 tons of highly flammable jet fuel, while both ships were full of heavy engine fuel. <\/p>\n<p>All crew from Stena managed to escape, but one of Solong’s Filipino crew, Mark Angelo Pernia, 38, was lost at sea and is presumed dead. <\/p>\n<p>Stena’s crew was praised for their ‘heroic’ actions as they triggered a fire safety system before abandoning ship.<\/p>\n<figure
