data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/world-war-two\/\">World War Two<\/a> veteran shot to fame as while raising \u00a338.9million for NHS <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/charity\/\">charities<\/a> by walking laps around is <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/bedfordshire\/\">Bedfordshire<\/a> home.<\/p>\n<p>Off the back of his soaring popularity, his daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore and her husband launched their own charity – the Captain Tom Foundation. <\/p>\n<p>But they repeatedly blurred ‘boundaries between private and charitable interests\u2019, and received ‘significant personal benefit’ themselves, according to<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/11\/21\/captain-toms-family-made-1-000-000-ties-charity-name-22032807\/?ico=more_text_links\"> a recent Charity Commission investigation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Among the concerns raised was a \u00a31.47million advance paid to the couple’s company, Club Nook, for three Captain Tom books.<\/p>\n<p>Statements at the time implied at least some of the money benefit the charity.<\/p>\n<p>But ‘to date the charity has not received any money from the first publishing agreement’, something that the public \u2018would understandably feel misled\u2019 to learn, the 30-page I genuinely am. But there was never any intent to mislead, and if there was any misleading, it wasn’t our doing.’<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether they would comply with the Charity Commission’s request that they make a donation to charity, she said claimed they already had.<\/p>\n<p>But she refused to reveal how much of the book advance had gone to the Captain Tom Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Ingram-Moore said: ‘I don’t think it’s helpful now for me to put another number out, because that’s the number everyone will talk about.<\/p>\n<p>‘There is nothing dishonest about what happened. Photo credit should read: Jacob King\/PA Wire\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>The family built a spa in a building intended to be the charity’s storage for cards sent to Captain Tom (Picture: Jacob King\/PA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Last year the family was forced to <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/02\/05\/now-bulldozers-roll-captain-toms-daughters-spa-ahead-demolition-deadline-20225541\/\">demolish an unauthorised spa<\/a> complex next to their Marston Moretaine home, which they have since <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/10\/09\/captain-toms-daughter-removes-listing-2-250-000-home-prying-eyes-21763222\/\">tried to sell for more than \u00a32million<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They had been given permission to make a Captain Tom Foundation building in their garden to store cards and gifts sent by admirers.<\/p>\n<p>Planning permission had initially been granted for an L-shaped building in the grounds of the family home.<\/p>\n<p>The planning authority refused a second application in 2022 for a larger C-shaped building containing a spa pool.
